The reporting is generally a straight presentation of the facts, to the point that the slant of most other newspapers is accentuated. The investigative reporting is especially noteworthy. The editorial pages are distinctively conservative; a fact that the paper freely admits. The editorial staff claims to have a "Chinese Wall" between the reporters and editors; a claim that is largely substantiated.

The FT is a newspaper that you can't afford to just browse through. There is so much information in every single issue, that it takes at least an hour to go through and really read it. They cover stories for everyone - politics, news happenings, human interest stories, and of course, those things affecting the economy and the world of business. The FT also does a great job covering international stories as well. If you like to read about sports, weather, or entertainment, you will not find much of that here. But for good editorial pieces, book reviews, and the latest in the world of technology, this paper will give it to you.

What you read in today’s financial times will likely appear in every other newspaper tomorrow. This is because the publication focuses on business and economic news, the source of much of tomorrow’s news. Try the publication for awhile and you will see what I mean. I bought it from the news stand on occasion since high school. Upon entering college and having read the publication for about a year, I decided it is superior to the rest and subscribed. Whenever a college student is willing to pay $185 for a newspaper, it must be good.

Scan the whole thing. There are good articles inside, and the international section is hidden away in section A. The important thing is to start reading it. I've known many students who have tried to read it, but they tried to read the whole thing and it turned them off. Each day Find 1 or 2 articles that interest you. You'll be reading it from cover to cover before you know it.

The stock and bond listings are great. I have seldom looked for a stock that I could not easily locate in the financial times. The local paper does not carry as much stock information, which is a shame. I also enjoy the various articles about stocks and mutual funds. I find this information helpful at times when I am considering different investment opportunities.
